Terms and Conditions for use of this site

These terms and conditions refer to the use of this site (netcommunity.shu.ac.uk). These terms and conditions should be read in conjunction with the University's main Privacy Notices.
On creating a graduate profile on this site you will be bound by these terms and conditions and agree to them. Using or accessing this website indicates your continuing acceptance of these terms and conditions. The University may change these terms and conditions at any time by updating this page. You should check from time to time to review these terms and conditions to ensure that you are happy to continue using the website under the changed terms and conditions. If you do not accept the terms and conditions applying please do not continue to use the website.
If you create a graduate profile this can be viewed by other users of the site which includes alumni, friends and supporters of the University. You can select which information you would like to make public by 'managing your graduate profile'. This website is not for use by children and is not directed at children. The University's Events team also utilise the alumni (Raiser's Edge) database to maintain contact details on key stakeholders with links to Sheffield Hallam University and who are invited to or attend corporate events.
The University reserves the right to refuse any application for a personal login for this site and is under no obligation to divulge to any applicant the reason why their registration has been unsuccessful.
This site enables registered users to connect with the University and with each other. It gives registered users access to a wide range of services including updating details, event registration, newsletters, targeted benefits and services and links with alumni. It is managed by the University's Development and Alumni Relations Office.
Data protection and use of information provided by visitors
Where you are required under this website to provide personal data, this data will be used primarily for communication with registered users of the University and this site and for the delivery of alumni services detailed in the Alumni and Supporter Privacy Notice. The University may also contact you from time to time with details of its range of services and schemes and may contact you for feedback on these. The University may inform you of events held in conjunction with a third party.
Information will be used in accordance with applicable data protection laws. You have the right to withhold consent for the use of your data for any of the purposes set out in the Alumni and Supporter Privacy Notice. Third party access
With the exception of information which you choose to post or share with third parties (see below), the University does not share your information with third parties, except agencies working on our behalf and, where required, to our statutory bodies who compile statistics about our former students. The University ensures such agencies will also handle information in accordance with the Data Protection Act.
An exception to this policy is our online search facility, such as the 'Alumni Directory', where registered users will see the information you decide to make available through your profile.
Use of the site
You acknowledge that all information, comments, photos and any other materials that are placed on the site are the sole responsibility of the person who made such postings. This means that you are entirely responsible for all material that you post, email or otherwise transmit to this website. The University does not control postings by others and therefore does not guarantee the accuracy, integrity or quality of such postings but will operate a rigorous take down policy of any material found to be inappropriate and will respond to any complaints. Although the University expects users to abide by these terms and conditions and its IT Regulations when making postings, you understand that by using this website, you may be exposed to postings that are offensive and objectionable. If you find material posted by another user objectionable please email us at alumni@shu.ac.uk stating your objections. You also acknowledge that when you make information available through your profile and other postings, you do so at your own risk. Please keep in mind that if you disclose personal information in your profile or in directories such as 'Alumni Directory' or when posting comments, messages, photos or other items, this information may become publicly available.
Inappropriate use
You are fully responsible for any information supplied by your user name and you must not share your user name and password. You must exit from or log out of the site to ensure that others cannot access the website.
Our website is strictly for personal and non-commercial use. It is not intended as a alumni service and the University reserves the right to terminate a member's registration if business use is evident.
When using the website, you agree to comply with the University's IT Regulations. You agree not to use this website to -
- post any material that you do not own or any copyrighted, vulgar, harassing, hateful, threatening, sexual or unlawful material.
- send junk or spam emails or "chain" letters
- impersonate any person or entity including an officer or employee of the University
- stalk or otherwise harass another user of this website or University employee
- collect or store personal data about other users of the website
The University reserves the right to terminate the registration of any member failing to comply with the University's IT Regulations or responsible for posting inappropriate material.
The University reserves the right to take legal action against individuals who cause it to be involved in legal proceedings through inappropriate use of the site.
Accuracy of information
The University does not accept responsibility for errors or inaccuracy of information within the website.
The University is not responsible for the accuracy of any third party site which is linked to or from this site, nor do such links imply endorsement of that site. If you believe that any information Sheffield Hallam University has published on the site is incorrect, you should email alumni@shu.ac.uk and any information which is found to be incorrect will be amended as soon as possible.

Suspension and termination of membership
The University reserves the right to suspend and terminate the account of users at any time and for any reason. Any user who is suspended has the right of appeal to the Development and Alumni Relations Office. The Development and Alumni Relations Office has the final decision to allow the reconnection of a user. Users of the site can terminate their membership at any time. If you decide to terminate your membership, the personal profile you supply will be removed from the website. To terminate your membership please email alumni@shu.ac.uk

Accessibility
This site uses Blackbaud NetCommunity software. Whilst at the moment NetCommunity does not meet all levels of the W3C's Website Accessibility Initiative (WAI) Guidelines, it does reach an adequate level of compliance and is continuously being improved.
